How it all got started....
Reading the Dark Star Safari by Paul Theroux has to be the starting point. I was reading it when Gareth came out to Stockholm for a weekend visit 3 years ago. For a couple of years after that, various "progress" meetings took place in pubs across london and various additional people joined in the trip and then unfortunately had to drop out. Finally, we decided on a March 2007 start in Cape Town based on trying to avoid the rains and the amount of time it would take to prepare for a trip like this.....
